Mr Vega grew up in Houston and attended Clear Brook High School in Friendswood, Texas.  He describes himself in high school as “a well-rounded, much-adored band nerd. “ He marched on the drum line all four years — freshman snare, then three years on tenors. He also participated in  jazz band and indoor drum line.

After high school, Mr. Vega went Texas State University and studied Sound Recording Technology in the School of Music. During college he was in several bands who “were fortunate to put out some records and tour around the country, and even play SXSW a couple of times.” Drop by room 128 for more details!

2017 will be Mr Vega’s fifth year teaching high school math in AISD. He taught at the Alternative Learning Center for fours years as well as summer school at Crockett, Eastside, Lanier, Akins, LBJ and McCallum High Schools. During his first year teaching full-time at McCallum, he is teaching Algebra 1, Algebraic Reasoning, and Computer Science. He is also a student at the University of Texas and is enrolled in his final class to complete a Masters of the Arts in S.T.E.M. Education.

Mr Vega still writes and plays music in a band called Desert Culture.
