Dear McCallum Vertical Team Community,

As a McCallum Vertical Team, we wanted to reiterate our commitment to creating safe spaces in every
classroom in our school for every student in our community, including our LGBT+ students and families.
As you may know, Dr. Elizalde recently issued this statement: “We protect all our kids at Austin ISD, no
matter what, and that goes for our trans kids, too.” As leaders of schools in AISD, we stand with our
superintendent.

As a district we are designated as No Place for Hate, and each of our schools also proudly share this
distinction. Being a No Place for Hate school means that all staff and students are respectful and inclusive
so that we have safe learning environments for everyone. We create welcoming schools by ensuring that
acts of bias and hate are not tolerated and every person is treated in a respectful manner. We teach our
students to be upstanders and allies by modeling this as adults when we see actions or words that are not
respectful, safe or inclusive. As always, do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions, concerns or
needs.

Sincerely,
The McCallum Vertical Team Principals
