Welcome back! I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to send you a link to the full Principal’s Update for August – one day early! In it you will find lots of important information for the start of the school year, including rapidly evolving COVID protocols.
I highly recommend signing up for the MacKnightly Enewsletter if you aren’t already subscribed. It’s a great way to stay informed about all things McCallum. Click here to subscribe.

Mac Orientation 2021
9th, 10th, and new-to-McCallum 11th and 12th
This year we are including 10th graders (and new 11th/12th graders) due to last year being mostly online. Our orientation is normally designed for incoming freshmen, but for this year we have added a sophomore component with the understanding that many of our 10th graders have not stepped foot on our campus. This orientation will allow our students an opportunity to get familiar with student life at McCallum HS before the Fall semester begins. Orientations will be on August 4 (10th and new 11th/12th) and August 5 (9th Grade Only)
For more information and to sign up for one of the orientation sessions, please see this link:

Please email Assistant Principal Larry Featherstone with any questions.
Back-to-School Town Halls with Dr. Elizalde
AISD will host two back-to-school town halls where families can connect directly with Dr. Elizalde and other district leaders – English on Aug. 4 @6:00 p.m., Spanish on Aug. 5 @6:00 p.m.
McCallum Community Town Hall
Please join us for a Community Town Hall over Zoom on Tuesday, August 10 at 6:00PM. We will discuss all things McCallum, including the start of school and COVID protocols. We will also have visitors from construction management present to give us an update on our two major construction projects: the HVAC system and the new dance studio.
Immediately following the town hall we invite incoming 9th grade families to join us for information specific to having a new high schooler. I will send the Zoom code and more information as we get closer. The meeting will be recorded for those who cannot join live.
Stop! Don’t buy school supplies yet. Your teachers will let you know what is needed for their class. We would like students to come to school the first day with a backpack, writing utensil, and a chromebook (Chromebook information for students new to McCallum will be coming soon). The good news is that you can hopefully hit up all the sales 🙂
All McCallum students have summer reading. The good news is that it’s not too late to pick up the book you choose from the list and get started reading. If you haven’t already, please find your level of English class and choose a book to dive into:
