Texas Health and Human Services has issued a Mumps Advisory (04/12/2017). Mumps is a contagious disease that is caused by a virus. Mumps typically starts with fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite. Then, most people will have swelling of their salivary glands. This is what causes the puffy cheeks and a tender, swollen jaw.

If you or a family member develops these symptoms, please contact the patient’s primary care provider via telephone prior to arriving to the clinic for care (precautions to prevent transmission will need to be in place before your arrival).

The best way to prevent mumps is via vaccination. Contact Nurse Katie if you need assistance in locating vaccination resources.
