Dear Mac Families,

Here’s to 2022! We are excited to welcome our Mac Knights back to campus. I hope your family was able to get a much-needed break. I’m certainly feeling rested and ready to get back to it.

Tomorrow is an A Day.  We will start in 1st Period.  Students and families can find their schedule on the Portal. As always, we will be here to help anyone who is needing it.

I know you may have questions about how school will look at this time, given the situation surrounding Omicron. Here is some additional information and ways you can help.

  • Masks – If possible, we recommend students wear a KN95 or N95 mask. Please also have a conversation with your student about wearing their mask over the mouth and nose. Most of our students do a great job wearing a mask correctly but some have struggled. We will continue to ask students to pull their mask over their nose. It is very important for our community.
  • Visitors – We will be limiting the number of visitors here on campus. When possible, we will utilize Zoom for parent meetings. This includes 504 and ARD meetings. Additionally, if you need to check your student out for an appointment, please send your student with a signed note so they can get a pass from class straight to your car. Students should bring notes to the main office in the morning. We will then set them up with a pass.
  • Covid Testing – McCallum is a testing hub.  We will continue to offer testing in foyer of the MAC Theatre.
  • Covid Response Protocols – Here’s the main thing: Students should stay home and get tested if they feel sick. If your student gets a positive test, please reach out to Andy Baxa (andy.baxa@austinisd.org) via email. We will then start the process of contact tracing. Please see this handy flowchart to better understand options for close contacts.

I will be holding my usual Coffee/Tea with the Principal Meetings this month on Zoom.  I hope you’ll be able to join me to talk all things McCallum. The Zoom code will be sent as we get closer to the date. Here are the dates to mark your calendar:

Thursday, January 20 at 5:30 PM
