Getting your child’s shots is one of the best ways to ensure our schools continue to be safe and healthy. Students need to either be up-to-date on their yearly shots or have an exemption to attend school in Texas. Since it’s been a while since many of us have been on campus, we wanted to send this reminder.

There are back-to-school shots required by state law before students can be fully enrolled unless an exemption has been filed. You can see the full list of required shots at the Texas Department of State Health Services immunization website.

You can fax or mail the shot records to your child’s school. If it’s closed for the summer, records can be faxed to 512-406-6543 or mailed to Dell Children’s AISD Student Health Services at 1345 Philomena St. Suite 300 Austin, Texas 78723.

Austin ISD will be hosting a back-to-school shot clinic, which will include the state-required vaccines and the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine, in partnership with Austin Public Health at LBJ Early College High School (7309 Lazy Creek Dr, Austin, TX 78724) on Thursday, July 15 from 3-7 p.m. More information can be found on the district calendar.

If you need shots for your family, you can always reach out to your family physician or Austin Public Health.

The COVID-19 vaccine, while encouraged for anyone who is eligible (now individuals ages 12 and older), is not required this school year.

For more information about back-to-school shots, including information on exemptions, please visit The TX DSHS Provisional Enrollment for Students Flowchart, or visit the Texas Department of State Health Services Immunization Branch website.
