Dear McCallum Families,

Our 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT test during school on Tuesday, October 26.  9th and 12th graders will have special activities during the first part of the day and then go to 7th and 8th period classes at the end of the day. We will be on a special bell schedule that day to accommodate testing and there will be no student sharing. The bell schedule for October 26 is listed at the bottom of the email.

9th grade:
All freshmen will be in their 5th period class for the entire morning and will rotate through a few different activities: National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI) presentation, discussions with senior student leaders on the Student Leadership Team, and study hall (time to get caught up!).  What do you need to bring?  Bring a snack + water bottle, regular school gear including a good book to read, and any school work you need to get done.
10th and 11th grades:
The PSAT is the National Merit qualifying exam. There are scholarship opportunities attached to successful scores on the test.  It is also a good baseline for the SAT; it will give you a glance as to how you will score.  The PSAT can also be used to show college readiness (a state requirement).  What do you need to bring?  Bring a snack + water bottle, regular school gear, and a graphing calculator (if you have one). Get a good night’s sleep!
12th grade:
Our seniors will use this time to get ready for the next step after high school.  Below are your options.  When you have read through the options, please fill out this form to let us know how you intend to spend your time. With the exception of TSI testing, all senior activities will be completed remotely.  On October 26 we will send out another form that will allow you to upload proof of participation in one of the following activities:

  • TSI Testing – The TSI is a test that shows college readiness. Being college ready is a graduation requirement mandated by the state of Texas (note: students can show college readiness through the PSAT and SAT as well). Students who use the time for TSI testing will be notified with a testing time slot. If you are unsure of your college readiness status, please see Ms. Nix in the College and Career Center (room 130).
  • College Visits – Students may visit a college and submit an official proof of attendance. Proof is an official signed letter from the college or university stating that you were there.  For an excused absence, it must include your name and the date.  What a great time to spend exploring your local college options!
  • Job Shadow – Spend the morning exploring career options!  You will need to submit proof of job shadowing through photo or written documentation.
  • College Application/Essay Work Time – Students who use the time to work on college application/college essays will provide documentation of their progress.
  • FAFSA Work Time – Completion of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a state requirement per the State of Texas.  Students can use the time to complete FAFSA. Proof of completion can be emailed to Mrs. Nix at
