On Friday, Nov. 22, the 2019 McCallum boys basketball alumni game will celebrate one of the school’s most decorated graduates, Olympic Gold Medalist and All-American Jay Arnette.

Dr. Jay Arnette began attending McCallum in 1953, the year it opened. He graduated in 1956 as a two-time all-state basketball player (and earned all-state honors in baseball as well). Jay went on to lead the Texas Longhorns basketball team for three seasons, and in 1960 earned All-American honors before being named to the U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball team, which won Gold in Rome the same year.

He and his wife, Betty, who met at McCallum, now have three children and six grandchildren. After his three-year NBA career, Jay and Betty eventually returned to Austin, where Jay was a practicing orthodontist for many years.

Join us as we honor this McCallum legend! Admission is free.
