Orchestra Requirements & Ensembles

Requirements for Orchestra Majors:

1 year of Music Theory
1 year of Piano
4 years in orchestra ensemble
UIL or AISD Solo and Ensemble

Ensembles

Chamber-Orchestra

Chamber Orchestra

Entry into this orchestra will be by audition only.  This ensemble will serve as the Varsity Orchestra in all competitions and will represent the orchestra program at Academy showcases and other Fine Arts events.    Membership in this ensemble is upperclassmen only — grades 10-12.


Concert-Orchestra

Concert Orchestra

This is the Non-Varsity Orchestra at all competitions.  This ensemble is for students in grades 10-12 only.  It is for serious students who are working to develop and improve their skills.


9th-Grade-Orchestra

9th grade Orchestra

All 9th grade McCallum orchestra students begin here in the 9th grade orchestra.  This orchestra will focus on making a successful transition from middle school to high school orchestra.  Having this ensemble of freshmen also provides a valuable opportunity to get to know one another.


Bass-Ensemble

Double Bass Ensemble

This is a special class for Double Bass players only.  This class is unique to the Fine Arts Academy.  Bass players who are working improve their technique and repertoire, have opportunities to work with professionals, such as Dr. David Neubert, principal bassist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) when they come to do master classes.  Students work with Mr. Pringle, who is a double bass player, on chamber music and solo repertoire.


Violin-Ensemble

This is a special class for violin players only.  This class is unique to the Fine Arts Academy. Students work with Ms. Shockley, who is a violin player, on chamber music and solo repertoire.
