Dear McCallum Families,
Thank you for your patience as we work through a plan that will keep us safe and meet the needs of all our students. As you likely heard, the AISD School Board voted on Aug. 6 to push the school year start date to Sept. 8. The first four weeks will be online, followed by four weeks of transition to in-person.
September 8: First Day of School
September 8 – October 2: Online Learning
October 5 – October 30: Transition to In-person learning (more info. to come)
November 2 – Ongoing: Families choose online or in-person
We have been working hard on a plan to reopen (link below). These are the three priorities we used in our decision-making:
- Safety – limiting the spread of COVID-19 and keeping our students and staff safe.
- Instruction – providing quality online instruction that will engage all learners.
- Connection – Finding ways for students to connect with peers, teachers, and their school and creating a system that will provide equity-centered social-emotional learning opportunities.
Please take a look at our McCallum Reopening Plan. It is a work in progress and is subject to change (such are the times). We will be scheduling Zoom meetings for parents to be able to hear from McCallum administration, instructional leaders, and social-emotional learning leaders. You will have an opportunity to process the information and make an informed decision that is right for your student and family.

It has felt, at times, like we are building a 1000 piece puzzle while riding a rollercoaster. I am so appreciative of the McCallum staff. They remain positive and student-focused in spite of this very challenging situation and (wow!) do they love your kids!
