Thanks to a new grant from the Lowe’s Heroes program the outdoor stage at McCallum has gone from being a hopeful goal to a concrete reality. That means URINETOWN is opening in a few weeks on our brand new OUTDOOR STAGE! In fact, all productions this season will take place on our new open air stage with a socially-distanced audience with the stage adaptation of the 1985 cult film CLUE hitting the stage in the spring!  Help MacTheatre achieve this groundbreaking feat by becoming a SEASON SPONSOR!

This rendering of the outdoor stage above shows its possible use as a venue for dance or theatre shows. Other renderings show the space as a venue for visual art exhibitions, for regular class meetings, and for guest speakers. Junior theatre major Grace Hickey is excited for the opportunities the space would bring. “With … this [the outdoor stage], we might have the opportunity to do some real, in-person performing,” Hickey said. URINETOWN

FEBRUARY 18 – 28 | OPEN AIR STAGE

A sidesplitting sendup of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. Winner of three Tony Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them to freedom!

Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by the Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Clue is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!

“It’s got a dizzy, stimulating joy that makes it a whole lot of fun… a game that’s definitely worth playing” – DC Metro
