Happy Holidays Mac Families!

I hope this finds you well. It’s hard to believe we are at the end of the semester – this has simultaneously felt like both the longest and the shortest semester.  We have all learned new computer skills and a greater appreciation for good ol’ human connection. I’m very proud of our teachers, staff, and students for working to make the most of this time.  So much creativity has gone into teaching and learning, as well as keeping the soul of McCallum intact.

I hope you are all able to enjoy a break from school, work, and alarm clocks. I will be spending time with my family and new sweet, but wild, puppy.  Happy holidays to everyone!  You’ve earned this break. I hope it treats you well.

Beginning of Spring Schedule

  • Tuesday, January 5 – PD DOI Day for McCallum (NO SCHOOL)
  • Wednesday, January 6 – First Day Back for Students
  • Monday, January 18 – MLK Day (NO SCHOOL)

Stay Informed with MacJournalism

Here’s a tip for our new Mac families – hop on the MacJournalism train.  I’m new here myself and am constantly impressed with our journalism program!  They don’t miss a story!  Staying connected can feel challenging, especially at this time, and MacJ will keep you informed.  The two main ways to follow the story here at McCallum are:

We have Great News!

Lowe’s has chosen the McCallum Outdoor Classroom and Stage Initiative to be the recipient of the Lowe’s Heroes Grant.  We are thrilled to partner with Lowe’s on this endeavor!  They will donate materials and send a crew to build our amazing outdoor stage!  We’ll be asking for folks to volunteer on the build (no experience necessary) so be on the lookout for that.

We will be able to use the stage during COVID and beyond.  I imagine showcasing student bands and talent on nice days during lunch. Big thank you to Lowe’s and our McCallum parents who got this ball rolling!

The McCallum Student Leadership Team met on Monday to talk about all things related to Student Leadership. This group of students is dedicated to improving equity issues at McCallum and welcomes any student interested in joining. We are meeting again on Monday, January 4 at 1:00 pm to do some work-shopping in preparation for our January 5th Professional Learning for all teachers in the McCallum vertical team (McCallum and the schools that feed into McCallum). Students take part in Peer-to-Peer Training

Earlier this year we were awarded a grant to bring Kognito training to our staff. This training has helped our staff learn how to help support students in crisis. Last week during our Round Table our students received training on how to support each other. This is just a beginning but it’s a valuable step in keeping our students safe.

Thank You Parents!

I wanted to take a moment to thank all our parents who have so generously given to our McCallum staff this fall – from teacher lunches to secret pals. We are all so thankful to you and definitely feel the love!  Our PTSA ROCKS!!

Coffee with the Principal

Please join us for the next Coffee with the Principal.  We will meet over Zoom and discuss all things McCallum High School.  I hope to see you then!
