Included below is a message from the new McCallum Interim Principal, Nicole Griffith:

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the Interim Principal of McCallum High School. I am sincerely honored to have the opportunity to serve this proud and accomplished community of educators. In my many years living in Austin I know McCallum by its reputation of excellence. I look forward to getting to know each of you and learning from your experiences.

During my 13 years of experience in education, I taught 9th grade world geography for seven years before stepping into a leadership role as an academy director at Austin High School. Throughout my years working with young people, I have dedicated myself to providing enriching experiences that give students the opportunity to take their learning to a deeper level. I have seen magic happen when teachers are given the opportunity, encouragement, and support to create authentic experiences for their students. Every person on staff plays an important role in helping our students thrive. I am committed to ensuring you have what you need to support students so they feel safe and equally valued during their journey here at McCallum.

I believe high school is a time for students to try new things, find their passions, and learn from mistakes. As your principal, it will be my job to ensure all students are ready for life after McCallum. In these uncertain times, COVID19 has challenged how we interact with students and families. The events surrounding the death of George Floyd and so many others have brought a spotlight to the systematic racial inequalities present in our society and schools. It requires all of us to listen to each other, acknowledge how racism is present in all systems, and calls us to action. I am committed to engaging in the important work ahead in confronting racism and seeking solutions with a lens to equity during this health crisis. The upcoming school year will require all of us to roll up our sleeves and work together as a team to ensure all students have continued opportunities to grow as critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers.
