McCallum Youth Dance Company presents their annual fall concert, “Traditions, innovating.,” on Saturday, October 21st at 7 pm and Sunday, October 22nd at 2 pm. The concert will feature 40 dancers performing in 15 teacher and student-choreographed works in tap, ballet, contemporary dance, hip hop, modern dance, post-modern dance, salsa and African Jazz styles.

Artistic Directors Rachel Murray and Natalie Uehara noted that the choreographers for this concert were inspired by the works of Alonzo King (LINES Ballet), Jose Limon, Jiri Kylian, Vaslav Nijinsky, Yvonne Rainer, Martha Graham, Pina Bausch, Doris Humphrey, as well as their own teachers.

“We wanted to cultivate a theme that connected our audience and dancers to the rich history of dance, yet lead the way forward into new ways of expression,” Murray said. “Once grounded in history, our young artists are taught creative and design processes so they too can become the innovators of their time.”

Tickets are available at the door or in advance at and are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for students. The concert will be held at the McCallum Arts Center at 5600 Sunshine Drive. Questions? Contact or 512-414-7569.
