This evening, the Board of Trustees approved that Brandi Hosack will become AISD’s executive director of human resources and no longer serve as the McCallum principal effective July 1. Though Hosack has only been at McCallum for one year, she has spent her last 16 on campuses and feels she is ready to take the next step, which she hopes will help her one day receive a doctorate in business and administration.
“I’ve been to grad school once to get my master’s, [but] it’s time to finish up my degree and get my doctorate,” Hosack said. “It’s really personal, internal motivation for me. It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time.” Hosack’s time at McCallum was short, but by no means was it forgettable.
“My time with you was not as long as I hoped it would be, but you have forever changed who I am. I love you guys, and you are going to do amazing things in this world,” Hosack said. “I won’t be too far away, I’m going to think about you all the time, and I’m going to come see you as soon as I can.”
Included below is her message directly to Mac Families:
Dear McCallum Community:
This letter is a difficult one to write. I absolutely love McCallum High School and have had a great year with you all, even in the toughest of circumstances. I write to you today to inform you all that I have accepted the position of Executive Director of Human Resource Services for Austin ISD and will not return as principal of McCallum next school year.
I realize that this decision is incredibly taxing on our school community, and for that I sincerely apologize. Frankly, I did not expect for this opportunity to present itself at this time, but we are all keenly aware of life’s unexpected turns. I have wrestled with this decision for some time as it extremely difficult to leave this position, this school, and this incredible group of people – including all of you. Ultimately, accepting this position will allow me to grow professionally, pursue future career goals and, most importantly, it is what is best for my family.
Austin ISD will be choosing an interim principal soon and I trust that McCallum will be in good hands moving forward.
I would like to sincerely thank all of you for the support you’ve shown and for allowing me to lead this great school, if only for a short time.
With great respect and gratitude,
