Academy Showcase Knight 2019

McCallum Arts Center Theatre, 7-9pm
On Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 7-9pm in the McCallum Arts Center Theatre, prospective students and their families are invited to attend the McCallum Fine Art Academy’s Showcase 2019. The evening involves performances and presentations by each of the arts majors, which includes band, choral studies, dance, cinematic arts, classical guitar, performing & technical theatre, orchestra, collaborative piano, and visual arts. The first portion of the evening will include performances by our fine arts students, and the second portion will include breakout sessions with the faculty of each major for Q&A. Spanish translation services available.

Academy Choice Knights
Tuesday, March 31, 2020 (music majors) & Wednesday, April 1, 2020 (all other majors)
McCallum Arts Center Theatre, 6-8pm
On Tuesday, March 31, 2020 music majors and parents (band, orchestra, piano, guitar & choral) AND on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 all other majors and parents (visual arts, performing theatre, tech theatre, dance & cinematic arts) are invited to attend Academy Choice Knight. After a brief presentation, you will meet with other new students/parents in your major to ask questions and discuss your courses for next year. You will also submit your choices for those selected classes. Counselors, teachers and administrators will be available to you.
In addition, the MAC Registrar will be enrolling students – so bring your documentation. Click here for what is needed. Enrollment is for students new to AISD as well as those who have moved recently and need to update records.
Academy Campus Tours
October/November 2019 – Fall Semester Only
9-11am, Registration Required
Current eighth and ninth grade students and parents who reside within the AISD boundary, are you interested in applying to the McCallum Fine Arts Academy? If so, this tour is for you! – first come, first served – tour group size is limited! Tour registration is required.
Please arrive at the school’s main office between 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for your tour. Enter McCallum High School at the circle on Sunshine Drive (look for the flagpoles) for closest entrance to main office. Parking available in north lot by MAC Theatre – corner of 2222 & Sunshine Drive. Check in at the main office (on your left upon entry to the front of the school). Tours will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m. (10/15 tour only starts promptly at 3pm)
It’s easy to cancel your registration from your Eventbrite account, but please do so with at least 24hours notice. Just log in to Eventbrite, Go to the Tickets page, and locate your order. Click your order to view order details, and then select “Cancel Order” to cancel your registration. They’ll send you and us an email confirming the cancellation.
Preferred tour date is full? Check to see if you can make another date. Eventbrite also allows you to select to be on a waitlist should someone cancel their registration.

Academy Field Trip Campus Tours
This year we are providing field trip campus tours of McCallum for schools of any 8th or 9th grade underrepresented, first generation college, or low SES students during the fall semester. Parents of these students also welcome. These MAC student-led tours will be informational, but also will speak directly to the experience of being a McCallum Fine Arts student. Please contact the Academy Office directly for details and to schedule a tour – 512.414.7533.
MAC Expo Knight
Wednesday, February 26, 2020 5-8pm
EXPO KNIGHT gives incoming 9th graders the opportunity to meet teachers, counselors and our Principal as well as learn a bit about MAC courses and programs. The Course Fair portion of the event is in the MAC gym from 5-615pm. The Information Session portion of the event is in the MAC Theatre from 630-8pm.
Academy Audition & Portfolio Workshop Day
Saturday, December 14th, 2019
McCallum Art Center Theatre, Time: 9am – 1pm
Registration is required
On Saturday, December 14, 2019, the Fine Arts Academy will host the 2019 Academy Workshop Day. Specifically designed to support students who need assistance in preparing for their auditions, this free event will bring a level of knowledge and comfort to what can be an intimidating experience. Students meet with faculty from their area(s) of interest to obtain support to prepare for the audition and portfolio reviews in February. Parents are also invited to attend a workshop designed to inform and support them in the application/ audition process, while the students are in their workshops. Spanish translation services will be available.
Registration is required and seats are limited based on classroom space. Attendance to this event is neither required nor used in determining eligibility for acceptance. Faculty have designed their sessions to serve as additional support and guidance should a student require assistance.
Academy Application Process Knight
Wednesday, November 20th, 2019
McCallum HS, Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Registration is required
On Wednesday, November 20th from 6-7:30pm at McCallum HS prospective students and parents are invited to a step by step walkthrough of the application process. The process to apply and audition can feel overwhelming and confusing. We want to help ensure you have support to go through everything and complete two of the steps directly with Academy Director, Heather Ramsay. Some computer and wi-fi access provided. Pizza dinner provided. Spanish translation services will be available. RSVP required (for dinner count purposes) – deadline 11/17/19. To register, click here.
