While we’re all likely spending more time at home, there is one thing we can all do right now that will positively impact the education and well-being of our students and families for the next ten years: fill out the 2020 Census ( https://my2020census.gov/).
Encourage ALLLLLL your friends and family to do it as well.

Message from Superintendent Cruz
Dear AISD family,
Thank you for remaining vigilant in your efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19 to ensure that Austin ISD and our greater community are safe and healthy.
While we’re all likely spending more time at home, there is one thing we can all do right now that will positively impact the education and well-being of our students and families for the next ten years: fill out the 2020 Census. To do this, look for your Census letter in the mail, which includes your Census ID number and further instructions to fill out the form online.
I know that many of our families, staff, and neighbors are struggling to adjust to the new ways of living that we are being asked to practice. I’m also aware and grateful for all of the individuals who are wanting to do something to help one another despite the limitations of practicing social distancing.
By filling out the 2020 Census, you can know that you’re doing your part to ensure that billions of federal dollars flow to where resources are most needed to help our communities. It also ensures that our communities receive sufficient representation. Filling out the Census also teaches our students a valuable lesson in civic responsibility and prepares them to participate in the future.
The Census is a great reminder that we are all connected. Thank you in advance for committing to complete your Census and encouraging others to do the same. I am fully aware that the situation we face is unprecedented and we are all coping in different ways.
Please know that we are here for you and your family.
Superintendent Paul Cruz, P.h.D.
What is the Census and why is it so Important to be counted?
Once every 10 years, every person living in the United States – regardless of origin or status – is required to fill out the Census. This is a requirement of the United States Constitution in order to provide an accurate count of all people in the country. When we respond, we help bring money to our community for schools, health care, libraries, roads and more.
Is it safe to fill out the Census?
It is important that you know, your Census response is private, protected and confidential. Your information can only be used to produce anonymous statistics and CANNOT be shared with landlords, immigration officials or any other agencies.
What is AISD’s role in ensuring everyone is counted?
AISD is collaborating with the city, county and non-profit partners in central Texas to ensure everyone is counted. Now, more than ever, our work must be rooted in equity, mutual support, and collective responsibility. Under these circumstances, we especially recognize the importance and value in drawing upon the strength of our school and family partnerships to reach more families, reassuring them that being counted is not only safe but benefits everyone.
