Join Breakthrough as a Summer AmeriCorps Member and Teaching Fellow!

Breakthrough seeks motivated high school and college students (ages 17 and up) for a 9-week, paid leadership opportunity this summer. No teaching experience needed, just a desire to learn, give back, and connect with other amazing people as a fellow at Breakthrough. Teaching Fellows get the chance to lead a class of motivated Breakthrough middle school students, all who are aspiring to be the first in their families to graduate from college. Fellows will join more than 140 others from around the country and get support from experienced educators while learning new skills and truly making a difference! Read below for more information.

Teaching Fellow Compensation & Benefits

  • Living Stipend: $3,000 plus $200 for each returning summer
  • Education Award: $1,638 in a Segal Education Award that can be used for any college debt or current or future college expenses.
  • Benefits: Asides from the awesome opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students, you also can access local housing at a greatly reduced cost, receive additional stipends for Pell-eligible or FRL students, and even travel stipends for students moving from outside Austin.
  • Skills Teaching Fellows Develop: Presentation and public speaking, event planning, problem solving, classroom management, collaboration, research and more!
